my good deed for the day

this afternoon john and i ran to the grocery store and then went through the mcdonald's drive thru on the way home

we're sitting there and john goes "look it's that cat"....there's this little teeny cat (probably an adult but severely underweight etc) who's always sitting under the cars in the parking lot....today she was meowing and looking at every car and person who went by herso i made john pull into a space...he's like "what are you going to do". . i just wanted to see if she would come over and she did.. she was VERY friendly....so i picked her up and got back in the car...john's like "what now?? we can't keep her..."

i didn't know what i wanted to do..but once i had her in my arms i knew i couldn't just let her go. ....she was all skin and bones and she was meowing and sounded like she had pneumonia or something. .she was VERY wheezy..and her nose was VERY very pale and dry s

o we came home. .john came in and got the carrier that we use for belle and some food. ..i felt awful but we got her in the carrier and left her in the car (if she was sick i didn't want to expose belle to something ). . we came in and started calling places. . . the MSPCA would not pick up their phone. . the police told us that animal control in this town doesn't work on sundays... and the humane society never answered the "emergency" page i sent.....at this point i'm hysterical thinking. . .i made a mistake b/c now what?? we CAN'T keep her. . and we can't just let her go

john had the presence of mind to call my friend . . .we were heading to her house this afternoon for dinner anyway. . she called her local police who said animal control would come right out and pick the cat up. . so we took her to my friend's. . and animal control picked her upthe whole time we were driving the kitty was laying the carrier mewing a little but she just wanted to be petted. .. she was filthy dirty. .but when we were almost there she finally started bathing herself. ..

john's lecturing me the entire way "we can't keep her. .dont' get attached. .etc etc etc". .. i, meanwhile, was hysterical. . just sobbing. ...

animal control said they don't usually keep cats b/c they pretty much have just one room. . so she'd probably stay the night but then be transferred over to the MSPCA and stuffs

o..that was my day. . .rofl. .it might seem stupid to some. . but VERY trying for me i know i'm not going to be able to get her out of my head. . (she's a gorgeous long haired calico with green eyes.. i named her penny lane )

you totally did the right thing! she'll be fine. :)

our animal patrol doesnt work on Sundays, either, and wouldnt you know, thats the day we ALWAYS see these two stray dogs out in the neighborhood. I even took pictures yesterday, just gotta work up the nerve to "report" them. Would rather their owner just take care of them! :(

i wondered onto your blog from another and i just wanted to comment that my dad found a kitty at McD's a couple of months ago. we already had 2 and had no intention of keeping it but we all fell totally in love with it. we named it Mac (short for big mac although it was nothing but a bag of bones). for 2 weeks all it did was purr solid and just want to be held.several weeks later mac went into heat and became Mackie, lol. she is a total sweetheart and one of the best kitties ever! she was severly malnourished but is one happy camper now. Just know that you did the right thing in helping that sweet kitty out! Wish there were more people in this world who cared about pets that to dump them at McD's like that.
